Every Boy Deserves a Trained Leader

Cub Scout leaders are considered trained when they have completed This Is Scouting (replaces New Leader Essentials) and the Cub Scout Leader Specific training for their position.

Scoutmasters and assistant Scoutmasters are considered trained when they have completed This Is Scouting, Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.

Troop committee members are considered trained when they have completed This Is Scouting and the Troop Committee Challenge as their Leader Specific training.

Venturing crew Advisors, assistant Advisors, and crew committee members are considered trained when they have completed This Is Scouting and Venturing Leader Specific Training.

In order to provide a safe and exciting scouting program, please complete the following:
        1. Fast Start Orientation,
        2. This Is Scouting (replaces New Leader Essentials),
        3. Leader Specific Training, and
        4. Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills

The Fast Start Orientation (#1) and This Is Scouting (#2) can be completed online for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing Leaders at http://olc.scouting.org. This site also provides other general training courses that expire after two years, such as Youth Protection Training, Safe Swim Defense, etc. Sign up for the online training at: http://olc.scouting.org

Leader Specific Training (#3) for Cub Scout Leaders is conducted periodically in conjunction with the roundtable meetings. Please visit the next scheduled roundtable to inquire about details.

Leader Specific Training (#3) for Boy Scout Leaders is conducted through the district's online program and an in-person review, which is part of the district's Outdoor Skills Training. Boy Scout Leaders can request access to the district's online training by sending an email to gemstoneleaders@gmail.com with your Name and Unit,  (i.e. John Smith, Troop 171).  You'll receive an email when your request has been approved with login information.

Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (#4) is scheduled during the Spring and Fall of each year. This course covers Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) for Webelo Leaders and Outdoor Leadership Training for Boy Scout Leaders. 

Our most recent Outdoor Leader Training was conducted on March 28, 2009. The schedule for the next training session will be determined in September 2009 and will most like occur in October 2009. Please register below and we'll send out an email when the schedule is set.

The Outdoor Leader Training will be held at Troop 174 Scout Hut, 146 St Johns Rd, Statesville, NC 28677.
